Вид эстрадного представления, распространенный в США на рубеже XIX-XX вв. и связанный корнями с шоу менестрелей [ minstrel show]. Специфика жанра водевиля в США заключалась в преобладании музыкальных и акробатических номеров. Первый театр с такой специализацией открыл в г. Нью-Йорке в 1881 Т. Пастор [Pastor, Tony]. Бизнесмены Б. Кит [Keith, Benjamin F.] и Э. Олби [Albee, Edward F.] популяризовали жанр, и уже к 1910 только в Нью-Йорке действовало более 30 известных театров, работавших круглосуточно (при цене билета не дороже 25 центов) и зачастую отличавшихся вычурной роскошью. Символом водевиля стал нью-йоркский театр "Палас" [Palace Theatre]. Типичное шоу открывалось пантомимой [dumb act] в исполнении акробатов, которая продолжалась, пока зрители рассаживаются по местам. Шоу строилось на контрасте, сочетая разрозненные разножанровые номера, выступления звезд и малоизвестных исполнителей, объединенные ритмом в единое целое. Indiscutible rey de la comedia comica de los anos 50, Frank Tashlin, con toda probabilidad, es el responsable de la posterior carrera en solitario, como actor y tambien como director, de Jerry Lewis, a quien dirigio en pareja con Dean Martin. Tambien Bob Hope, Tom Ewell, Jayne Mansfield y Doris Day figuran entre su elenco de actores. Inevitablemente, su unica incursion en el western tiene un tono claramente parodico. Kane habia dirigido en 1935 un serial para Mascot, que junto con otras pequenas productoras se asociaron para fundar Republic ese mismo ano. Desde esa fecha hasta 1958, en que la productora desaparece, Kane es uno de sus directores mas prolificos. Estamos ante uno de los grandes nombres del western, en cantidad, ya que no en calidad. Entre 1934 y 1975 trabaja en no menos de 120 peliculas, la inmensa mayoria de las cuales pertenecen al genero que nos ocupa. Trabaja con Gene Autry, John Wayne, Robert Livingston, Roy Rogers, Bill Elliott, en tre otros. Despues dirigira algunos episodios de se ries de television y otras cuatro peliculas.
